WOODTURNING PASTES ON THE MARKET

There are 3 major brands of Woodturning paste on the market. These are EEE-Ultrashine, Yorkshire Grit, and Dr. Kirks Scratch Free. All of these products are meant to remove the fine scratches left by your sanding.

The benefits of using these pastes are:

  • Saves time on sanding
  • Reduces airborne dust
  • replaces buffing
  • provides protection and shine

Some folks sand to 240 or 320 and go directly to the woodturning paste and others apply a coat of sanding sealer before using the paste. Depends on the wood and your preference.

MAKE YOUR OWN WOODTURNING ABRASIVE PASTE

So, why not make your own? You can make a 7 oz canister for a couple bucks and fine tune it to the grit you like.
This sanding butter can be made with 1 part beeswax, 1 part tripole, 5 parts mineral oil, BY WEIGHT. Works the same as the store bought butter.

If you have your own recipe or have tried this butter, we would like to hear about your results. Please post photos and enter your comments below.
