Goal: sharpening your hand plane irons, chisels and other shop tools for maximum efficiency

This workshop shall focus on the processes of sharpening woodworking tools. Attendees are asked to bring along whatever sharpening equipment and techniques that they currently use to sharpen items along with an hand plane iron in need of sharpening. Attendees will gain a better understanding of the diverse processes used in sharpening and refine their skills in a particular process. Reference Leonard Lee “Sharpening”

Outline:

  • Cutting Iron bevels
  • Plane bed angles
  • Mouth opening and chip formation
  • Overview of sharpening materials: ceramic, water stones, diamond plate, oil stones, Tormek
  • Detailed process of Veritas MarkII w/ water stones and micro bevels
  • Cambered cutting edges and when to apply them
