RWS Scholarship Program

The RWS has started an Education Fund, intended primarily for our new Woodworkers Scholarship Program.

The program will grant up to $1000 to an applicant — must be an RWS member for at least one year — to help defray the cost of a course at an approved woodworking school.

Applications must be in by January 1st of each year. Consideration will be given to the applicant's skill level, likelihood of enhancing his/her expertise, as well as the practicality/reasonableness of the proposed woodworking course. By February 15th, a Scholarship Committee will select the award recipient. Upon completion of the course, recipients will be expected to share their experiences in either a newsletter article or at a workshop or SIG meeting.

We hope some of you take advantage of this opportunity. In the future, we hope to extend the program to include students in area schools, to help our youth expand their woodworking skills and join us as RWS members.

For a list of woodworking schools and other program details, you can download the Scholarship Application. You may also contact George Harvey at 585-624-1981 or edurochesterwoodworkers.org. *

*  We take this opportunity to solicit donations — funds or woodworking services or items — for the Education Fund. Please contact George Harvey at 585-624-1981 or edurochesterwoodworkers.org.

Sawboard (PDF 28K) - Submitted by Maria Sohn

Q. How does one work four by eight sheets of plywood into dead-on accurately dimensioned panels for cabinet carcasses and shelves without taking out a second mortgage to finance a large stationary table saw with table extensions and all of the fancy trimmings?

A. By using your old faithful circular saw and a sawboard.
