What is this?
This is a half day interactive workshop to introduce the art of chair caning. Participants will be provided
with materials to complete a small caning project. Included are a pre-drilled wooden square for the
actual caning, caning material, reamer, pail, and sponge, pegs and literature.
Each participant will take home a completed, caned square. The workshop is made up of the following
sections:
1.
Introduction to caning, with examples
2.
Review of caning materials (handout)
3.
Review of the caning process; planning the design (handout)
4.
Review what can go wrong, and how to fix problems.
5.
Caning activity
6.
Review of applying the binder strip
7.
Review finishing and coloring the cane.
8.
Wrap-up
A materials fee is required.
