Introduction to Veneering Workshop

Some of the early birds for the Introduction to Veneering workshop on Saturday, March 30th
The registration table is taking care of lunch orders

along with his long-time friend Jeff Petko of Gecko Custom Woodworking

We had a good sized crowd with 37 RWS members and guests taking the workshop
Jim did an interesting introduction covering the history, politics, and current state of veneering
Jim then covered the vocabulary of the veneering industry as well as the manufacturing techniques
He brought a great assortment of the veneer available from Certainly Wood

Jim shows an example of book matching veneer to create the effect and produce larger material
Some species and cutting techniques yield much larger pieces of veneer
An interesting pattern created by book matching
The morning session over brought lunch from DiBella's

The afternoon session started with other products available such as paper backed veneer
Jeff gets an example veneer job started in the press to have it available later in the day
Jeff begins his portion with an explanation of the types and virtues of various backing mat'ls
Jeff is heavily involved with veneering at his own company, Gecko Custom Woodworks
