Betty Scarpino was the featured guest at the October RWS workshop
We had a good turnout with about 30 members in attendance
Betty is famous for her aftertreatments on turned work
She started out prepping a piece of walnut for bleaching

Many of her famous works have been turned and then bleached
She launches right into the demonstration
The level of bleaching depends on the number of applications
With her indispensable toothbrushes, Betty adds some color to the work

A printers roller is used for larger flat surfaces
A little red, over the green after the grooves are cleaned up
An Automach is used to create some grooves for effect...
which are then highlighted by burning them

Don't just use the the burner tip as usual
Use the points, sides, back, etc.
An egg with bleached turnings, grooves, and burn features
Fabric paints are very versatile in creating 3d effects
