Introduction to Carving Workshop

The Introduction to Carving Workshop was taught by Tom Meiller
Held at Woodcraft, the class had 20 students
Tom used many of his own carvings as examples for the class
The class was comprised of lecture...

and demonstration...
and student "hands on" sessions
All of the attendees got to try there hand at carving
Tom demonstrated the various facets of sharpening tools

The tools need to be sharp to make carving enjoyable
A sharp tool is a requisite to good carving
Tom shows the methods of planning various carved features
He used one turning to show many possible decorative carving ideas

Tom's theme was that it looks difficult, but usually isn't that tough
As usual, the RWS workshops include lunch
The class dines on the DiBella's subs (the RWS Official Sub)
After lunch, Tom covered the techniques for making moldings
